The US has the most expensive & technological health care system in the world, and the worst Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) of all developed nations including war-torn countries. A diverse, culturally-sensitive, respectful midwifery workforce will increase access to quality care and improve maternal health outcomes around the US. Access to a competency-based midwife education and exam process is a priority for Community Midwives National Alliance, to help sustain, recruit and diversify the maternal healthcare work-force by skill and profession.
Georgia specifically is ranked 50th in the nation for maternal death. The Community Midwives National Alliance Georgia Chapter was created to bring more education and resources to the women in Georgia who are most negatively impacted, by introducing innovative resources for maternal healthcare such as community midwives, and other levels-of-care models which improve access to those with higher-risk conditions; without pushing other low-risk healthy women into the unnecessary, expensive, and high-tech interventions.
